Daniel MacIntyre, St. Matthews Community Association is a community-driven not-for-profit Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation servicing the Daniel McIntyre and St. Matthews neighbourhoods in West Central Winnipeg. Their mission is to empower the community of Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews to achieve social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing and their vision is of a Daniel Mcintyre-St. Matthews Community which is stable, healthy and safe, a neighbourhood that is diverse, welcoming, vibrant, clean and self reliant. Robyn Webb is the greening coordinator at the Daniel MacIntyre, St. Matthews Community Association and sits on the MAFRA Steering Committee.
Food Matters Manitoba is a registered charity that engages Manitobans towards healthy, sustainable and fair food for all. Food Matters Manitoba’s activities include:
- Cultivates community food skills
- Provides public education
- Builds partnerships and networks
Kreesta Doucette is the executive director of Food Matter’s Manitoba and sits on the MAFRA Steering Committee.
Four Arrows Regional Health Authority is a regional organization created and governed by the four Island Lake First Nations and working cooperatively with their community health services. They strive to improve health conditions and health services in the Island Lake region. Byron Beardy is the Food Security Coordinator and sits on the MAFRA Steering Committee
Harvest Moon Society‘s visions is a world in which healthy land and communities are celebrated by all, leading to equitable food systems, a sense of place, and care for the environment now and in generations to come. The mission of Harvest Moon Society is to develop a learning center that works toward strengthening and building linkages between urban and rural areas, empowering communities while creating strategies and infrastructure to sustain community and environment. This will be carried out using a diversity of tactics focused on grassroots and participatory practices. Colin Anderson has been a long-time member of the Harvest Moon Society and the Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative and he sits on he MAFRA Steering Committee.
The Organic Food Council of Manitoba promotes local, organic food through education and community building. Strong relationships between growers, processors and eaters result in food that is grown, processed and distributed organically, sustainably and locally. OFCM is a chapter of the Canadian Organic Growers. The mission of Canadian Organic Growers is to lead local and national communities towards sustainable organic stewardship of land, food and fibre while respecting nature, upholding social justice and protecting natural resources. Sharon Taylor works for Manitoba Farm Mentorship, which is a program of the Organic Food Council of Manitoba and she represents them on the MAFRA Steering Committee.
The Northern Association of Community Councils is to be a meaningful and effective advocacy group. To improve the quality of life in Northern Association Communities by having positive, proactive meetings with ministers and cabinet on issues affecting their communities and to inform and involve community councils and residents in their progress. They beleive that all communities are unique and that their needs and interests should be recognized. Vanessa Loz is the Northern Healthy Food Initiative Representative and is on the MAFRA Steering Committee.
