Growing Food Justice Everywhere

Our food systems begin and end with people

The Manitoba Alternative Food Research Alliance is made up of citizens who are developing alternative food systems that provide local, fresh, healthy, culturally appropriate, fair, and affordable food (food security). Some are looking to have control over food systems and to play an active role in providing their own food (food sovereignty).

We submitted a Community University Research Alliance (CURA) proposal (click here for more information about CURA) that has provided $1Million dollars in funding over five years to promote alternative food systems in urban, rural, and northern Manitoba. We received $20,000 to develop this proposal in the summer of 2009.
