Dr. Annette Desmarais worked for OXFAM-Canada as a Project Coordinator of the OXFAM Global Agricultural Project for ten years. She completed her Master’s in Gender and Development at the University of Sussex and her PhD in Geography at the University of Calgary. She is currently an Associate Professor of the International Studies Program at the University of Regina. Her areas of specialization include food sovereignty, international development, rural social movements and gender and development. Currently, her research focuses on food sovereignty in Mexico, Spain and Canada. In addition, she continues her research with the international peasant and farm movement, La Vía Campesina.
