Dr. Slater is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Human Nutritional Sciences and Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. She carried out her Bacherlor’s at the University of Saskatchewan and both her Master’s and PhD at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Slater’s research interests include community food security, dietary assessment and determinants of food choice, nutritional needs of marginalized populations, and the role of food skills in health promotion and disease prevention. She has worked with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases on the relationship between HIV/AIDS and food security. In addition, her work analyzes the importance of traditional Aboriginal foodways in reaching food security today.
