Call For Community Proposals
The 2012 call for proposals is open! Applications are due January 15th 2012.
Audio Visual Equipment
MAFRA has 12 digital cameras, 4 mini flip video cameras and a handy camera that student and community organizations are welcome to borrow. If you have a desire for other audio/visual equipment, let us know and we will do our best to try and accommodate. Travel and Conference Funding
Students
There is funding available for MAFRA funded students to access additional funds, up to $600, to attend conferences where they will share about their MAFRA funded project. The pdf version of the application is available here and the Word version of the application is here.
Community Organizations
There is funding available for MAFRA funded community projects and other community projects to access additional funds, up to $1,000, to attend conferences where they will share about their MAFRA funded project or build their capacity around food justice. Communications Resources
MAFRA has come up with a list of communications resources in order for food projects in Manitoba to be able to share information about their projects. That list of resources can be found here.
Student Involvement in Community Projects
University of Manitoba Co-Curricular Review
MAFRA has been approved by the University of Manitoba’s Office of Student Life as a validator for the Co-Curricular Record. This means that in the area of Volunteerism and in the area of Leadership, MAFRA can help students gain a special designation on their transcripts for being involved in community organizations that do food related programming or research. Contact us if you are a student or professor who is interested in finding out more.
Community Organizations Looking for Student Support
MAFRA is excited to be able to provide a service for community organizations where we can help them to find a student to help support community based, food related projects. Learn about the Food Matters Manitoba St. Vital Community Food Assessment that used this service. Contact us or fill out and send in, this application if you are interested.
Upcoming Conferences
The Canadian Association of Food Studies Conference will be in Waterloo May 26-28 and proposals for conference papers are due January 13, 2012. The topics of the conference is A Ford in the Road. Submissions for the Student Paper Award are due on January 15, 2012 (final paper due March 1, 2012)
The Canadian Association of Community Service Learning Conference will be held in Saskatoon May 10-12, 2012 and proposals on the topic of Impacts of Community Engagement are due January 31. Proposals for workshops, interactive sessions, talking circles, panels, and poster submissions will all be accepted.
Plans for the 2012 Growing Local Conference are well underway. The conference is being held at the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg and includes a great lineup of workshops and displays. Included in the program is a special Thursday evening event with guest speaker Winona LaDuke! Find out more from Food Matters Manitoba.
